The Bank of Tekama was given a 25 year charter from the legislature on February 12, 1857, over the veto of the governor. It was supposed to have issued $99,000 in notes, most of which were never redeemed. As of the mind 1990s the notes were thought to have a rarity rating of 3 (51 - 100 known pieces), so presumably there was a larger supply that was either hidden away or destroyed.

on May 27, 1858 the Nebraska Advertiser announced the failure of the bank, at which time the notes were declared to have a value of less than 2.5 cents on the dollar.

Lawrence Owens, in his series of articles on Nebraska Territory banking, quotes news sources of the time saying that the Bank of Tekama was an open swindle, a base fraud from the beginning to the end.

They issued only three denominations... $1, $2, and $5, and all known examples are dated Sept 1, 1857.
