I'm giving serious thought to doing research for another article. This one would seek to understand what percentage of the obsolete currency sheets sold in the 1990 auction still exist in sheet form, and what percentage have been cut into individual notes.

In large part the genesis of my curiosity was the occasion of the purchase of my first full sheet of proof notes from the Ocoee Bank of Cleaveland, TN. I scanned my database (and some of the other online databases) and found that since 1990 I could find no instances of sales of the sheets from that bank. There were, however, quite a few sales of the individual notes in the intervening years.

Obviously, it's going to be challenging to determine whether any particular note came from a particular sheet. My plan is to first create a trendline showing the number of full sheets put up for auction each year, and see if that line shows a stead descrease in sheet sales, with a corresponding increase in individual note sales. Either of those trends, by itself, would not say much, but if you put them together it will suggest that the availability of full sheets is diminishing.
