This book is really a reprint of two volumes combined into one book consisting of "State Bank Notes of Michigan, (1956, 196 pages)" plus "Early Michigan Scrip (ND, 1972?, 211 pages)." So it actually has about 400 pages.

The first ~50 pages discuss the history of Michigan banks and their notes. It has some detailed information on the bank and scrip issuers with less than one image per page on average. The organization and presentation of the information is somewhat scattered.

Haxby typically has more information and images on the individual bank notes, except of course for the scrip. But then these were published about 30 years before the Haxby volumes.

It does have imprint information but only at the end of a set of notes, which can be confusing when an issue had several different imprints.

Instead of listing the rarity of each note separately, it has two pages that list the notes that are unique, 2-4 known, and 5-7 known. It has no evaluations which would be totally out of date anyway.

But I guess that this book is really obsolete since it has been replaced by the 960 page 2007 book by Wallace Lee entitled “Michigan Obsolete Bank and Scrip Notes of the 19th Century - National Bank Notes 1863-1935.” ISBN 087341957X. This book is available for about $80. This book should get a separate listing under "References".
