From the Introduction: "The chief purpose of this research report is to provide in visual form a record of bank notes and scrip representing what is thought to be the largest number of diffferent railroads whose notes have been brought together into one collection." The book contains images from virtually all of the note-issuing states of the period, all scanned in black and white. The introduction and the index are the only text in this book. Everything else is pictures and index numbers.
